Recently I found myself interested in learning more about the Maya, and understanding more of the glyphs, and their calendar.
Through that search came up with sort of a lesson plan for myself useing a course at the University of Texas as sort of a structure for myself.
So at my website started what I call George's Journal For The Learning Of Maya Glyphs.
There you will find virtually every imaginable link required to gather material from, that allows one to somewhat follow the guide lines given for a couple of courses at the University.
The first is the Indigenous Mesoameica class.
The second is the Introduction to Hieroglyphic Writing.
Don't forget to turn the volume up on your computer and enjoy some interesting music.
To make this work:
The websites section for learning the Mayan Glyphs will be the place to go to follow the suggested structure, ( reading material, lesson plan, quizes and tests, etc......) and for obtaining the material. I hope to be able to come up with all the material for us via the internet. Or replace textbook material with another pdf files via the internet.
I have only ordered one book from the university which seems an important reference for the Univesity''s Indigenous Mesoameica class .
I am proceeding one step at a time. There is plenty of reference mateial at the website that can be used between people at a distance to read and then share and question each other on within this forum.
So the process is to start by registering here on the forum, going to the website and following the instructions ( dowloading the reading material and getting familiar with the links) that are posted.
Once you have made it that far and have introduced yourself on the forum, we will just take it from there together.
I am not an instructor or an expert. I hope there are others like myself who would simply like to have a simple and easy to follow method for getting familiar with the Maya people, glyphs, and calendar. So taking it one step at a time. This is where I am at present.
What I felt was missing from the beginning was the ability to communicate (share) with other as I learn. The opportunity to talk with others who feel they are in the same boat so to speak.
I am open to any and all suggestions. I am quite sure that my way is not the only way.
Any way, get registered and go to the website, look around and get familiar with the pages relavent to this.
I am sure it has been said before in this forum, but just to remind everyone. There are no qualifications needed. Age is not important at all. You don't need to know anything except that like myself, you have the desire to learn.
Of course your more than welcome to check out the rest of the site, just try to stay focused upon these three pages that are related to the two courses.
The hollidays are comming up and I am buisy with that.
I am going to try my best to gather people to this forum up through just after the first of the New Year.
Then if there is an interest we can proceed.
